Get perfect rice every time using Katie's method.
How to perfectly boil your rice
Measure the rice into a cup/ramekin (that holds approx. 75g)
Rinse the rice thoroughly in cold water for a few minutes (alternatively leave to soak in cold water and then strain)
Pour the rice into a pan over a low heat and immediately add double the amount of water to the amount of rice (2 cups of rice = 4 cups of water or 75g of rice = 150ml water). Add a sprinkle of salt. Tip: To speed up this step you could use boiling water!
Bring to a boil and stir once.
Put a lid on the saucepan and turn the heat down as low as possible. Don’t be tempted to cook on a high heat - it will cook too quickly and won’t be as fluffy!
Cook for 10 mins and do not remove the lid. Tip: Set a timer so you don’t forget it!
Check the rice is cooked by tasting a few grains. Keep cooking for another 2 minutes if not, then turn the heat off.
Fluff the rice with a fork and serve. However if your main dish isn’t ready, pop the lid back on (with the heat off) and it will keep warm and fluffy for 10 – 15 minutes!
HINTS & TIPS
If you have any leftover rice, it can be stored in the fridge for 1 – 2 days. BUT please refrigerate as soon as it is cool and make sure you heat it through properly before eating.
